a greener evil

Enviromentalists frequently say that greener sources of energy are also cheaper in the long run, but companies are too short-sighted to realize that, thus making it necessary for the government to step in and give them a little push in the right direction. Surely, it would be even better if some company were to make this decision on its own, setting an example for the rest of the market. Like, say, Wal-Mart?

Chris Hendrix, general manager of Texas Retail Energy, said he would consider buying a renewable-energy power plant, such as a wind farm, if the company can’t find enough vendors to meet Wal-Mart’s eventual goal of using only renewable power.

After all, it makes all the sense in the world: Wal-Mart is known for being cheap as hell, so it’s no wonder it should try and save as much money on energy as possible. And it sure would be fun to see environmentalists and treehuggers having to use Wal-Mart as a role model.
